Fall/Winter Vegetables

This is one of the best times of year for broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage. Brassicas and peas are the most common vegetables to grow during cooler weather. These plants can handle warm temperatures into the 80s, and will take longer to produce if the weather stays cooler. ​Usually September - May, depending on the weather.  Most of these crops tolerate cold temperatures and do well with some days reaching the low 90s. Optimum range is 50-85 degrees. In colder weather, these crops will take additional time to produce.

Snow Crown Cauliflower grows best in cooler weather. It may produce one head or several small heads over several months; the leaves are also edible. They are hearty, similar to a collard green, and may be sauteed or even baked. Start in late summer to produce in fall.

Kohlrabi

Quick to grow, 1.5 months! Beautiful specimen. As the bulb grows, gently pull the plant slightly out of the tower so the bulb forms outside. This is similar to celery, fennel, and beets.

Spring Raab - Broccoli

This replaces our mini broccoli from last year. Maybe be grown most of the year, when temperatures range between the upper 40s through the mid 80s.


Great for its leaves and the small florets. Pick back to produce offshoot heads. If left unpicked, florets will begin to flower, and are still edible.

 4 Total Varieties: Toscano and Red Russian are mainstays.  Winterbor and Scarlet Kale are cold weather favorites. These plants produce well for many months.
